Jeju City to Pursue 120 Innovation Projects

On July 5, Jeju city announced it will undertake 120 innovation projects for 2018 to realize a "happy city where the citizens are in charge."

Last May, the city established a 3-part basic plan to realize the social values of a happy city where the citizens are in charge, increased participation and cooperation as well as a trusted local government.

The operational details of the plan include 26 projects including free legal counseling, establishing an advanced parking culture by establishing order and achieving a cigarette smoke free city.

The plan also involves 23 projects to boost participation and cooperation including a communication concert with artists, expansion of library facilities and other public resources as well as the operation of a sustainable rural experiential village.

Plans for creating a trustworthy local government include 23 projects such as customized sexual harassment prevention education, smart welfare app operation in Jeju City and a one-stop computerization system for municipal complaints.

Jeju's Director of Planning and Budget stated, "We will actively promote the projects and secure the effectiveness of the innovation by periodically checking and selecting the best cases through external expert evaluations."
