The 2018 Global Jeju Business Leadership Forum kicked off with an opening ceremony at Lotte City Hotel Jeju on October 15.

Sponsored by the Jeju Provincial Government and organized by the Jeju Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), the forum will continue until the 17th under the theme of “A Dream of Jeju’s Growth: An International Conference of the People of Jeju for a Global Jeju.”

In the opening address, Kim Dae-hyeon, President of JCCI said, “To overcome the economic instability in and outside of Jeju, entrepreneurs in Jeju should collect wisdom to enhance their competitiveness.” He also added, “I hope that this forum will pave the way to realizing the Dream of Jeju’s Growth.”

In his welcoming speech, Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong said, “Jeju achieved a rapid and quantitative growth over the last few years. However, the province still faces numerous difficulties and instabilities in the current economic situation.” He also stressed, “We need to foster a dream for sustainable future growth by addressing the issues we have experienced so far.”

Won also said, “Even though the growth of our province requires support from everyone from Jeju, the efforts of the entrepreneurs are essential to create jobs and enrich the local economy,” and added, “I hope this forum will provide an opportunity to put our heads together and pool our strengths.”

The keynote speech was delivered by Chairman Seong Kyoung-ryung of the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences, who proposed that “A new national vision is required to address the key risk factors affecting the Korean society."

During the forum, a business meeting with overseas buyers from China, Japan, and Taiwan and Jeju’s exporters will be held on October 16.
