(JEJU=Yonhap News) The innovation city of Seogwipo-si, Jeju will be fostered as Smart MICE Industrial Complex.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) announced on October 25 through Comprehensive Development Plan for Ten Innovation Cities that Jeju is well known as international tourist destination thanks to convenient transport system and accommodation, and abundant tourist attractions.
MICE supporting institutions such as Jeju International Convention Center and Jeju Convention & Visitors Bureau were also taken into account in selection process.
Smart MICE Global Training Town, a rent-a-car center with electric vehicle recharging station and Photovoltaic power generation system will be built with a budget of KRW 7.8 billion.
Plans are prepared to establish Cooperative-Intelligent Transport Systems, Complex Innovation Center and Sports Training Center, and to maintain crime preventing urban environment.
Customized village tourism facilities for visitors using empty buildings near the innovation city will be established, along with the regional development. About KRW 22.9 billion will be spent for the project.
Jeju Province, Jeju Tourism Organization, Jeju Convention Center, Jeju Convention & Visitor Bureau and Training Institutions will jointly form a MICE Development Council.
The Council will provide integrated information on conference, exhibition, training and tourism, and support identify new business models by establishing a space cloud system.
The Council is expected to attract more than 160 international conferences through their activities.
Moreover, Jeju will implement various projects including nurturing research personnel in meteorology, establishment of open lab to foster smart-agro farm industry and supporting social enterprises expand markets.
