Jeju to create 10,000 jobs for the elderly population next year

(JEJU=Yonhap News) Jeju Island has decided to focus on creating 10,000 jobs for the elderly next year.

The Island government accounced on Devember 24 that it will plan to spend a total KRW of 26.98 billion on job creation and social activities in order to create 10,000 jobs for elderly population of over 60 or 65 years old.

A total of 10 institutions including the Jeju and Seogwipo municipalities, district governments, labor agencies for elderly and senior clubs will create and operate a variety of job opportunities tailored to each institution's characteristics.

The Island government will send 65 personnel to each institution to support and manage the elderly's stable adjustment into the workforce.

In particular, the Island government will establish a social service type business that employs an elderly person in areas where social assistance is needed, for example, a social welfare facility. It will also provide the participating seniors with more than 60 work hours a month, twice the work time of public service businesses, as well as the annual allowance.

The Island government also decided to increase the budget for the security cost of the institution and the related personnel by 10 percent.

Jeju Island said 9,462 people is participating in the elderly job program as of the end of November this year.
