According to Yonhap News,

(JEJU=Yonhap News) Jeju provincial government announced on January 16 that it will work out a master plan and promotion plan for a five-year project aimed at fostering social enterprises and generating 3,000 new jobs.

The island government set up a 'working group', a public private partnership, to hammer out a master plan for a five-year project last month.

The working group consists of sixteen members-nine social entrepreneurs, three from support organizations, two experts, and two public officials.

The working group plans to devise a master plan by March, by discussing a project model by sector, such as social enterprise, village company, and cooperative corporation.

Once a master plan and promotion plan are set out, the provincial government will finally confirm after review by the province's social economy council.

Social enterprises seek profits while providing public services to local communities.

The number of social enterprises increased from 175 in 2014 to 384 last year.

By providing financial support to social enterprises, the province has generated 1,757 jobs so far.
