Jeju Island spends as much as KRW 297.3 billion to go green

Jeju Island announced its 2020 plan on Jan. 6, saying the local authority will increase its budget allocation to as much as KRW 297.3 billion, 84 percent up from the same period last year (KRW 160.9 billion).

The spending mainly goes to development of the next source of income,
-to make Jeju zero-carbon island
-to convert into green energy
-to push up the share of LNG (10percent from the private, 30 percent from the public)
-to run authority led policy to build up offshore wind farm
-to supply self-sufficient energy source
-to expand EV infrastructure to make more EVs running on the road
-to foster emerging business technologies, a new source of income for the island
-to facilitate an industrial ecosystem to get well ready for the upcoming era of the fourth industrial revolution
-to lay foundation for emerging business technologies, while fostering capable human resources to work in future ICT industry
-to help startups develop sustainable technologies

The province says the list they’ve mentioned earlier would become the roadmap for the growth of local economy, safer quality life for residents and future industrial ecosystem.
