According to Yonhap News,

Making use of data analytic skills that can identify seasonal, age-specific sources, Jeju Island kick starts a personalized recommendation service to pick the best tourist spot for each visitor.

The province announced on Jan. 7 that the Island plans to pour national budget KRW 51.3 billion into developing big data analytics solutions to learn tourist traffic and MICE(Meeting, Incentives, Convention, Exhibition) industry.

The big data analytic platform collects tourist data as a large pool of sources to be used- e.g., tracking GPS data, networking (WIFI included), public transportation transit record- and then analyze the database for customized service to be provided.

The service platform is scheduled to be developed into smartphone application for mobile users. To make the conventional tourism industry well facilitate the latest technologies, the Island is planning to support HR training and smaller businesses involved.
