Jeju to spend KRW 14.7 bln to help local fishing industry competent

Jeju Island announced that the local authorities will spend as much as KRW 14.7 billion this year on multiple projects, which includes welfare programs for workers in fishing industry, disaster prevention and management and entrepreneurship competencies for business sustainability. To improve community living conditions and wellbeing for residents in fishing towns, the province injects KRW 2.5 billion running five separate projects. For disaster prevention, attendee experience classes for safety while working, community prevention systems and compensation for the members of the deceased (or injured), authorities spends another KRW 1 billion for 11 projects.

As Tokyo has refused to have conversations with Seoul for joint-fishing within Japan’s exclusive economic zone due to Korea-Japan political conflicts, which have sparked since last year, the Island makes up for the financial loss worth KRW 1.7 billion to help local fishermen. Extra cash grants of KRW 9 billion are given to make the community economy stable and competitive.
