KHNP to establish a solar power plant with 60MW capacity
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd (KHNP) announced a signing of a deal on Jun 19th with its partners, J1 Energy and Jeju Island for a project to build a photovoltaic power generation system with 60MW capacity.
The project which costs KRW 9.2 billion, is expected to produce roughly 69,000 MW of electricity annually. The construction starts in Feb next year and comes to an end in Jul, 2021. Once it’s installed, KHNP will take a role in REC purchasing and managing, whereas J1 will become a reliable supporter to help its partners.
There’s another project in progress that KHNP is in charge. The agency is orchestrating the construction of a 300MW off-shore floating PV near Saemangeum, aligned with “Korea Renewable Energy 3020 Plan”, a solar power plant being established in salt farms near Shinan-gun and a facility to secure 2GW of renewable energy sources on a site once used for pumped-storage hydroelectricity (PSH) and nuclear energy generators with 200MW capacity. KHNP said they’ll finance KRW 20 trillion more to add 7.6GW of energy production mainly sourced from wind and solar power until the year 2030.
