Jeju to form a giant EV repair and maintenance platform by 2024
Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, KITECH, Korea Automobile Repair & Inspection Federation, KARIF, and Jeju Island signed an MOU on Jun 30 to form EV repair and maintenance platform.
Global EV sales, insignificant in the 2010s, have soared over 2 million in 2018. The market for plug-in cars in Korea has grown exponentially either, with EV registrations, hitting above 100,000 as of March 2020. But Korea still lacks repair and maintenance infrastructure. As the island is selected as the best possible spot for the maintenance platform by the trade industry, KITECH unleashed a plan to set up a business outpost for EV maintenance. Technological sponsorship will also be provided to further enhance capabilities. PartDB, a database solution provider, and Korea Automotive Technology Institute (Katech) will be responsible for maintenance system and components and battery condition monitoring. Respective local authorities will back up a string of administrative and training supports in a bid to spread maintenance technology by forming partnership networks among each entity.
