According to Newsis,

Jeju Island said on Sep 11 that the provincial authorities are setting up a plan to make the city the best possible host of the 28th round of United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), when Korea is nominated as one of candidates to hold the global event.

UN’s climate conference is known as the world’s largest summit at the presence of leaders and representatives of 197 member countries to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change. COP28, which will take place at the end of the year 2023, is reported to be hosted by one of signatories in Asia-Pacific region.

With the final approval from the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s in-house committee who has proven the event is worth hosting as international gatherings, Korea’s environment ministry is set to signal its intention to host the conference to the United Nations.

Once Korea is selected as the host country of the next COP23, which province to attract the event will be discussed. Under its slogan “Carbon Free Island 2030”, Jeju Island is poised to give all-out efforts to host the summit.
