According to Yonhap News,

The second round of the 6th FARMING + JEJU Fair, which aims to bring qualitative and quantitative growth to the sixth industry, opened on Nov 6 at the Jeju Int'l convention center (Jeju ICC). At the presence of representatives from each local authorities nationwide and 80 private-public institutions, the fair reaffirmed the latest industry trends, values and future visions of the sixth industry, exploring ways to form sales networks and partnership home and abroad.

The committee of the fair unveiled a roadmap for the experience program to get to know more on the sixth industry mainly targeting incoming visitors and buyers to the Island. There was a special corner of an open dialogue seminar, held right after the opening ceremony, where participants shared thoughts on how to make small towns better off and to make full use of resources of the sixth industry for community development.

Kim Yong Ryeol, the head of Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI), delivered a keynote speech under the theme of “Korea’s response strategies to make the sixth industry sustainable”.

The other speakers of the fair, Janet Dwyer, a professor at the University of Gloucestershire in the UK, gave an e-lecture on innovation of the EU agricultural sector, followed by professor Baek Seung Woo at Jeonbuk University who delivered a presentation of “how far the sixth industry can evolve into.”

The 6th Industry refers to a type of cross-border platform that combines the comprehensive range of process to create value coming from each industry: Primary (production), Secondary (manufacturing and processing) and Tertiary (relevant services) industrial stages where agro-food businesses can crossover to develop local economy.
