According to Yonhap News,

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province singed an MOU on Feb 9 with Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to jointly respond to the current COVID-19 crisis.

Both reached a consensus to co-develop tech-based virus containment methods and quarantine system to mitigate the spread of the contagious disease, forming emergency response mechanism to better cope with the public health crisis at all times. The province governor said “To build resilience to any sort of pandemics and to make the city the world’s safe place from the crisis, we need to give greater focuses on tech-based disease prevention efforts.”

The head of KAIST said “The partnership deal will help us gain momentum to develop technologies for the sake of human values, not for technologies of the self. The development of disease containment technology in progress will be assured to leverage the country’s future growth driver.”
