Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on January 23 that it will invest a total of 193.7 billion won this year in future strategic industries with the goal of promoting carbon neutrality and solidifying the foundation for transition to a future society.

To this end, the provincial government will select and implement four strategic tasks and 19 action plans.

It will invest 131.7 billion won in the project to create a carbon-neutral metropolitan self-governing province so as to lead the government’s policy of ‘carbon neutral 2050’ by utilizing its policy of the ‘2030 carbon-free island’ and the infrastructure it had implemented in the past 10 years.

Specific action plans include ▲Establishing hydrogen economy based on green hydrogen in earnest ▲Building a foundation to activate Jeju-style distributed energy ▲Establishing a stable energy supply base and expanding new and renewable energy ▲Revitalizing upstream and downstream industries of electric vehicles and cooperation for mutual growth.

In addition, it will invest 27.7 billion in the future strategic field with the goal of securing new growth engines by creating the ecosystem for the 4th industrial revolution ecosystem.

Its action plans include ▲ fostering the bio/cosmetics industries using local biological resources ▲ advancing local industries such as nurturing Jeju’s major industries ▲ establishing an ecosystem based on the 4th industrial revolution technology and nurturing of digital talent, and ▲ creating a startup ecosystem by fostering startups.

In addition, Jeju will invest 24.3 billion won in the digital convergence field with the goal of realizing an ICT convergence-type smart island through the Digital New Deal.

It will push for ▲Creating Digital New Deal 2.0 outcomes that local residents can actually experience ▲Fostering ICT-based future convergence industries and establishing an ecosystem for public service utilization based on corporate support data and AI ▲Creating smart drone hub city and future technology innovation foundation

In addition, 10 billion won will be invested in the administrative information service sector to realize intelligent administration that communicates through digital technology.

As action plans, the provincial government laid out ▲realization of a digital world without alienation ▲establishing a Jeju data center ▲providing stable administrative information service ▲creating a secure work environment by upgrading security system, and ▲creating a smart city through advancement of information and communication infrastructure.
