According to Yonhap News,

Jeju-do will make a bid to realize Net-Zero society by 2035 through energy transition based on renewable energy and green hydrogen for the first time in Asia.

Jeju-do declared '2035 Carbon Neutrality Vision through Energy Transition" at Halla Arboretum on May 1, announcing a scenario to achieve carbon neutrality based on renewable energy and clean hydrogen.

According to research and development on energy supply model conducted with Jeju and experts group, the carbon emission of Jeju in 2035 is estimated at 6 million tons. To achieve net zero emissions, it is required to produce more than 7GW of renewable energy anually, including from wind power and solar panel, and green hydrogen of more than 60,000 tons.

Accordingly, Jeju-do plans to increase the share of renewable energy generation to more than 70% by adding renewable energy generation facilities, and produce more than 60,000 tons of green hydrogen, in order to convert basic energy from thermal to hydrogen all.

To this end, the province will additionally build offshore wind power generation facilities of 100MW and expand water electrolysis facilities to more than 15MW by 2026.

In the mid- to long-term, the province plans to build wind power plants of 150MW by 2030 and convert organic waste resources such as livestock manure into clean hydrogen.

In addition, it will create large-scale offshore wind farm and build hydrogen trams.

Also, in line with national policies, Jeju will focus on reducing carbon emissions.

It will regulate internal combustion vehicle registration, and push for the conversion of large vehicles to hydrogen cars together with the existing policy to deploy electric vehicles.

Jeju's governor said, "Jeju will enhance the status of Korea by becoming the global leading city that resolves climate crisis and energy security issues."
