Jeju-India seek cooperation in the renewable energy and space industries

Jeju-do and India will be seeking ways to cooperate in various areas related to future new industries such as renewable energy, electric vehicle batteries, and space industries.

On May 30, Jeju-do announced that its governor Oh met with Indian Ambassador Amit Kumar, who visited Jeju to attend the 19th Jeju Forum Session for Peace and Prosperity, on the previous day, and proposed to expand exchange and cooperation in future new industries.

Jeju's governor referred to the MOU that Jeju't Technopakr and India's Science and Technology Park in April, saying that "it's very meaningful that Jeju and India agreed to bolster cooperation in EV battery sector," adding that "I hope that various cooperation measures to be discussed between Jeju and India in the EV battery sector."

He also mentioned that "Jeju is a leader in Korea with regard to manufacturing and launch of low-orbit satellites, operation of ground station services, and utilization of satellites, driving the creation of the private space industry ecosystem," adding that "we hope to see further exchange and cooperation with India, which is leading the innovation in the space industry."

Ambassador Amit Kumar responded warmly, saying that "let's consider ways to interact with Jeju's startups, as startups are active in India in battery performance improvement."

He also said "more opportunities to cooperate with Jeju are expected as it has been only two years since the private sector was allowed in the space industry, despite huge interest in low-orbit satellites," adding that "I hope to see joint development in the future new industries including the space industry and green hydrogen industry, based on expanded cooperation and exchange."
