According to Yonhap News,

Jeju-do signed an MOU with Tilon, a software company, for the establishment of "Net-Zero Internet Data Center" at the Jeju Provincial Government on August 9.

Tilon, founded in 2001, is a software company that supplies cloud services (virtual servers) to companies and public organizations and leads metaverse and blockchain.

Under the agreement, Jeju-do and Tilon agreed to make efforts to build the Net-Zero Internet Data Center, producing contents utilizing 3D metaverse, hiring local talent, and growing convergence projects.

The data center will source most of 40MW electricity capacity used to operate its servers from renewable energy, contributing to carbon neutrality. The facilities of the data center are also planned to be used as places for workcation.

It is expected to cost more than KRW 500 billion to build the data center.

Jeju's governor said that "the establishment of the data center is expected to be the largest-ever investment since the 8th popularly elected local self-government took office," adding that "as the data center receives most of the electricity needed to run the data center from renewable energy, it will make a major demand for the renewable energy industry. We will continue to cooperate to foster the new industries."
