According to Yonhap News,

Jeju saw more tourists thanks to its World Natural Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

Jeju World Natural Heritage Site management team said that 3.85 million people visited Jeju's World Natural Heritage Site last year.

The number of visitors increased 71.2% from 2006 when Jeju volcanic island and lava tubes were not yet listed as the World Heritage Site.

Foreign visitors increased threefold from 2006 with 651,000 people. After Jeju was listed as the World Natural Heritage Site, the number of visitors to the World Heritage Site increased 5.7% in 2007, 20.3% in 2008, and 12.7% in 2009, and 19.6% in 2010.

By May this year, the number of visitors also increased 3.5% from the same period of last year.

The management team said that the rise of visitors is attributable to its promotional activities and increase of tourism infrastructure.

Jeju plans to build the world natural heritage site center where visitors can see Jeju's natural heritage sites including Seongsan Ilchulbong, Geomunoreum lava tube system all at once by June next year.
