Jeju strives to attract 1.5 million foreign tourists

According to Yonhap News,

Jeju Tourism Development Corporation said on Jan. 10 that it will be aggressively engaged in developing overseas tourism markets with the aim of attracting 10 million tourists.

The corporation plans to develop high added value tourism products targeting Chinese and Japanese tourists and expand its marketing strategy to develop new tourism markets, such as South East Asia, Middle East and Russia, with the aim of attracting 1.5 million overseas tourists in 2012.

To achieve this goal, it supported the development of wedding tourism packages and made the guide map specialized for cruise ship tourists in an attempt to accommodate Chinese tourists. For Japanese tourists, it provided supports for Jeju International Golf Festival and the development project for horseback riding tourism product.

In addition, the corporation organized incentive tours in Singapore and Thailand, and advanced into the new tourism markets, such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam, along with the development of Mongolia medical tourism.

It also focuses on achieving the goal of recording 46 billion KRW in sales revenue of duty-free shops for Koreans in Jungmun Tourism Complex in Seoguipo City and searching for new profit sources.

The corporation said it made several remarkable achievements last year, such as successfully achieving the goal of attracting one million foreign tourists, surpassing 4.2 billion KRW in sales revenue of duty-free shops for Koreans and being selected as the excellent institution in the performance evaluation among public institutions.
