According to Yonhap News,
Kim Bu-il, Deputy Governor of Environment and Economy of Jeju, and Ru Yong, Commissioner of Development of Beijing, signed an agreement to actively work together to develop their tourism industry by utilizing their UNESCO world heritage site and Seven Wonders of the World.
Both sides agreed to hold an international seminar on Jeju Island, designated as the UNESCO World Natural Heritage and New Seven Wonders of the Nature, and the Great Wall of China, designated as the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage and New Seven Wonders of Foundation, in an attempt to discuss how to preserve and maintain the tourism assets.
They will open a direct flight route between the two regions, operate a charter flight during the peak season, enhance the brand value of their tourism assets and develop sustainable tourism products.
They also plan to exchange human resources in the tourism sector, share information and educational program on tourism and organize seminars to promote their tourist attractions.
In addition, they will provide preferential treatment in tourism, transportation, food, accommodation, leisure activities and shopping to tourists coming from the two regions.
Jeju and Beijing designated the World Natural Heritage Asset Management Group and Baldaling Special Zone Representative Office as their contact point, respectively, and will organize meetings on a regular basis.
Jeju donated Dolharubang, which means Stone Grandfather in Jeju dialect and a famous symbol of Jeju Island, at the signing ceremony.
