According to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Tourism Association (JTA) Monday, the number of tourists to Jeju as of last week reached 7.95 million, which increased by 12.1 percent compared to last year’s 7.10 million.
On September 23, 24,422 Korean and foreign tourists visited Jeju, heightening expectations that Jeju will see 8 million visitors this week, earlier than last year (October 23rd).
The number of Korean tourists to Jeju this year recorded 6.136 million, which grew by 4.5 percent over the same period last year. The number of foreign visitors, which rapidly increased due to inflow of Chinese visitors, rose by 48 percent to reach 1.82 million from last year’s 1.23 million.
A JTA official noted that Jeju achieved about 75 percent of its target for this year (10.50 million), adding that if the momentum continues the province will be able to reach its goal by early December.
