According to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Tourism Association last week, about 70,000 Chinese tourists will visit Jeju by flights and cruise ships during eight days from today, as China celebrates its National Day holidays.

The number increased by 46 percent, compared to last year’s 47,995 visitors.

Including temporary flights, total 117 international flights are showing reservation rates of 80 percent. Five international cruise ships with Chinese tourists are also planned make entry at Jeju Port.

The association analyzed that enhanced access to Jeju with more number of flights and cruise ships led to the increase in Chinese visitors to Jeju despite implementation of a new Chinese tourism law that restricts shopping and tourism overseas.

In addition, during five days from October 2 to October 6, when Korea celebrates the Foundation Day on October 3, total 172,000 Koreans and foreign tourists have made reservations for Jeju tours.

About 900 domestic flights showed 83 percent of reservation rates. Hotels, condominiums and rental car companies also observed high reservation rates of 85-95 percent, 80-90 percent, and 60-70 percent, respectively.

The number of Foundation Day tourists also rose by 16 percent from 148,502 last year.
