Jeju Develops Specialized Towns by Investing KRW 11.9 billion

(ULSAN = Yonhap News) Jeju Special Self-Governing Province (Jeju) announced on 6th that it has invested KRW 11.9 billion in town development projects to foster specialized towns in this year.

The province launched the five-phase town development administrative support systems, and mutually connected the development projects supported by businesses and institutions with projects supported by the province and central government.

In the first phase, KRW 10 million was invested in each of 15 towns including Hanlim 3-ree and Taeheung 2-ree to select items for an agenda and support other activities including resource investigation, town workshop, best town visit and establishment of the development project plan. The investment aimed to encourage the participation of local residents to the project and further enhance ability of residents.

The province also carried out visiting briefing sessions of town project, eup-myeon-dong tour briefing session and town development consultation service to 33 towns.

A total of KRW 290 million was invested in seven towns including Dongbok-ri and Seohong town for townscape improvement project in the second phase, The third phase included investment of KRW 100 million to each town of Songdang-ri, Goo-uk-ri and Seogwangdong-ri to engage in a medium-sized project to create regional income.

In the fourth phase, the province invested a total of KRW 10.788 billion to 25 towns for various projects. For central Government-funded projects, KRW 9.758 billion was invested in 15 towns. KRW 185 million was invested to the creation of town communal income of Yongdang-ri, and KRW 845 million to nine towns for developing the leisure village that provides farming and fishing experiences and supporting the recruitment for the project.

The fifth phase included the public and private joint assessment of 21 towns, which have carried out the town development projects since 2008, to discover towns with excellent outcomes. The province also provided the fund to improve the facilities and consulting services to towns with less desirable outcomes.
