(SEJONG = Yonhap News) A product-service systems design center and general tourism and business center will be established in the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province (Jeju).

Jeju announced on January 2 that it secured KRW 1billion and KRW 5 billion for the construction of the product-service systems design center and general tourism and business center respectively in the national budget for 2014, and it will begin the construction.

The construction project of the product-service systems design center is backed by the government and Korea Institute of Design Promotion, and it plans to develop infrastructures for service and design fusion research and development projects in Jeju’s tourist, medical and traditional industries. The construction is expected to be complete in 2017.

The center is expected to stimulate the development of the province’s tourist and medical industries and primary and secondary industrial growth by supporting the product-service systems design research and development and fostering the experts.

The general tourism and business center, which will be constructed in Jeju High-tech Science Technology Complex, will affiliate with other complexes nationwide to foster the new converged industry in Jeju. The construction project is organized by Jeju Tourism Organization.

The center will host a tourist information center, counseling center, travel agency, car-rental agency and agro-fishery marketplace.

Jeju Tourism Organization will establish its business plan this year, and complete the construction by 2016.
