Jeju to Invest KRW 5 Bn in Maritime & Fisheries-related Projects

(JEJU = Newsis) Jeju Institute of Maritime and Fisheries announced on January 10 that it will select 23 projects from seven different fields to enhance the competitiveness of the maritime and fisheries industry, and will invest a total of KRW 5.18 billion in the projects.

The amount of investment was increased by 120 percent from last year’s.

The institute will invest KRW 410 million for restoration of villages’ fisheries, and KRW 60 million for research and development projects of high-level seafood and development of new fishing techniques.

It will also invest KRW 295 million to improve the productivity and eco-friendly agriculture, and KRW 234 million to enhance competitiveness of agriculture through breed diversification.

KRW 78 million will be invested in the research activities to tackle climate change, and another KRW 89 million will be used to develop the breeds to prepare for the impact of the Korea-China free trade agreement.

This year, the institute will take out additional KRW 600 million from its national project budget of KRW 1.87 billion to develop hygiene rearing aquarium and marine bacteriophage.
