Overseas Korean Biz Network to Hold Convention in Jeju

(SEOUL = Yonhap News) Members of the World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Associations (World-OKTA) will gather in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province to discuss the development of the global Korean economic network and seek measures to help the domestic small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) advance into the global market.

World-OKTA announced on April 2 that it will hold the 16th Leaders Convention and the Export Discussion Meeting from April 22 to 24 at the Jeju International Convention Center in Seogwipo-si, Jeju.

With more than 6,500 regular members, 12,500 next-generation members and 125 Chapters in 67 countries around the world, World-OKTA is the largest Korean economic organization in the world. It holds the Leaders Convention and the Export Discussion Meeting every year and help domestic companies discover new overseas market opportunities.

More than 550 members of World-OKTA and 200 business leaders and local government officials will attend the event. The event will co-hosted by World-OKTA, Yonhap News Ageny and Jeju.

With the slogan “Unifying economic boundaries among overseas Koreans’, participants are set to open up new markets for SMEs in Jeju, and exchange information about investment promotion activities and the global economic trend.

The event will mark its opening on April 22 with the keynote speech delivered by Oh Young-Ho, President of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). The speech will be followed by the video clip that introduces World-OKTA, award ceremony and dinner hosted by the governor of Jeju.

The World-OKTA 11 International Committee, the presidential conference attended by the honorary president, vice-president and more, overseas job (internship) fair, next-generation global leader meeting and Jeju investment promotion session are scheduled to be held on the second day of the event.

On the last day, export discussion meeting, information session that discusses overseas expansion by local SMEs, closing ceremony and dinner hosted by the head of Yonhap News Agency.

More than 70 local SMEs that produce food, clothing, marine and fresh water products and cosmetics will participate in the exhibition and export discussion meeting.

“It has been 10 years since World-OKTA visited Jeju for the last time in 2004,” said Kim Woo-jae, Chairman of World-OKTA. “We will thoroughly prepare for the event so members can discuss investment in Jeju and discover new markets for local SMEs.”
