Jeju Promotes Development Plan

(JEJU=NEWSIS) Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced October 29 its development plan where the province will invest KRW 3.8738 trillion to materialize the “HOPE” project, a regional development policy of the Park’s administration.

For building infrastructure of regional life zone, the province suggested KRW 1.6376 trillion for 84 businesses in 4 sectors to invigorate the central areas of the urban and rural areas, expand the life infrastructure for residents, revitalize the regional community and expand transportation and logistics networks.

For creating jobs and enhancing the regional economy, the province suggested KRW 1.6239 trillion for 96 businesses in 7 sectors to establish a special local development zone, develop regional industries, establish the foothold for the creative economy, expand the foundation for science and technology, develop tourism industry, promote the Jeju Free International City and create more agricultural and fisheries jobs.

For improving education environment and nurture creative talents, the province suggested KRW 5.9 billion for 17 businesses in 4 sectors to improve the education environment of elementary, middle and high schools, develop a world-renowned university, create a virtuous cycle of human resources and companies and establish a life-long education system.

For regional culture and restoring the ecology, the province suggested KRW 232.7 billion for 28 businesses to recreate the region through enhancing the cultural capacity, reducing the cultural gap and preserving the ecological resources.

For building regional welfare and medical system, the province suggested KRW 172.02 billion for 15 businesses in 2 sectors to support tailored welfare and reorganize the public medical system.

For pleasant life in Jeju, the province suggested KRW 201.7 billion for 19 businesses through cooperation between Jeju and Seogwipo.

The city development plan is a five-year legal plan (2014∼2018) in accordance with Article 7 of the Special Act on Balanced National Development and it is a bottom-up plan that includes various sectors, such as regional pledge businesses, special local development zone project, life zone development business and balanced regional development business.
