According to Yonhap News,

(SEOUL=Yonhap News) South Korea's international and domestic air passengers rose in April on the back of rising demand for air travel, government data showed Monday.

The total number of flight passengers reached 7.79 million last month, up 17.5 percent from 6.63 million the previous year, according to the data by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The number of international tourists to and from South Korea rose 17.8 percent on-year to 5.28 million, while domestic passengers moved up 12.9 percent to 2.5 million.

Chinese travelers were all together 1.64 million last month, accounting for 31 percent of the international air passengers, surpassing the 30 percent mark for the first time.

A weaker Japanese currency also led to a 21.3 percent on-year increase in air passengers on Korea-Japan routes, reaching 978,000 in April.

Those flying to the southern resort island of Jeju jumped 14.8 percent on-year to 2.16 million, as the island became one of the favorite tourist destinations among local and foreign tourists.
