(SEJONG=Yonhap News) The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) announced June 16 that it will host the OECD Climate Smart Agriculture Workshop with the Secretariat of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) at the Shilla Jeju from June 17 to 18.

The climate smart agriculture, a combined concept of food security and climate change, refers to the sustainable agricultural development in terms of economy, society and environment.

At the workshop, Director Ken Ash of the OECD Trade and Agriculture Directorate and 60 prominent experts at home and abroad discussed and shared opinions on the consistent policies for the climate smart agriculture.

It has been 12 years since MAFRA and the OECD Secretariat co-hosted an agricultural workshop.

"The workshop will find balance between the climate change adaption, agricultural productivity improvement and greenhouse gas reduction," said a MAFRA official.
