International Ocean Science Research Support Center Opens in Jeju

(SEJONG=NEWSIS) The Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology opened its international ocean science research and support center in Jeju on June 19.

The center will focus on the marine organisms in Jeju, the home to 51 percent of the marine organisms in Korea. The aim is to accelerate the marine bio industry by capitalizing on the studies on the marine organisms in Jeju.

The international ocean science research and support center will also become an advanced base for the studies on the climate change and marine environment change of the Korean Peninsula.

Therefore, the center will establish ocean science education and training programs to nurture marine experts and promote international joint studies.

It will also play a pivotal role as a regional research center by creating a marine cluster through the industry and academic cooperation.
