5 Traditional Cultural Contents Selected to Develop Regional Tourism

(SEJONG=Yonhap News) The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) announced January 19 that they will develop the traditional cultural resources into the leading regional tourism products.

They have selected five traditional cultural contents, including Shin Saimdang and Heo Nanseolheon of Gangneung, Wolbong Seowon of Gwangju, Jeonju UNESCO heritage, Sancheong Oriental Medicine Theme Park and Gyeongju Historic Areas.

Each traditional cultural content will receive up to KRW 100 million of support for its operation and maintenance costs. The KTO will also provide support for PR and marketing acitivities including participating in overseas tourism-related exhbitions and attracting tourists.

"We will strive to help the selected traditional cultural contents to become the leading regional tourism products and we will look for more cultural contents that capitalize on the regional traditional culture," said a MCST official.
