(JEONJU=Yonhap News) South Korea's largest offshore wind power generation complex will be built in Saemanguem, the reclaimed tidal land on the southwest coast.
North Jeolla Province and the Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency announced on January 5 that they will conclude a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the offshore wind power generation project with Saemangeum Offshore Wind Power Ltd. at Gunsan Best Western Hotel on January 6.
The project will be led by Saemangeum Offshore Wind Power Ltd., a special purpose company jointly established by multiple organizations including KEPCO KPS and Mirae Asset, entirely through private investment.
Through the project, an offshore wind farm with the nation's larges electricity generation capacity of 99.2MW will be built near Saemangeum Seawall from April this year to 2018, injected with KRW 440-billion investment.
A total of 28 wind turbines, including 24 3.5MW turbines and four turbines with a capacity of 3.0 to 3.2MW will be installed, along with a wind power equipment plant sized 30,000 ㎡.
A wind farm of this size is capable of supplying electricity to 62,000 households a year.
