(IKSAN=Newsis News) The North Jeolla city of Iksan has set out to become a major tourist destination.

On May 14, at an event held on a specially prepared stage in Seodong Park, Gemma-myeon, Iksan proclaimed 2017 the first year as a tourist city, declared that it will work with Iksan citizens to build a tourist city of happiness.

At the proclamation ceremony, Mayor Jeong Heon-yul vowed that he will pursue policies by communicating and cooperating with both private and public sectors, and most importantly, with local residents.

In particular, the city will focus on expanding tourism infrastructure, developing tourism content and products, carry out promotional and marketing events to promote its brand as a tourist destination, develop overnight and related tourism packages, and strengthen the development capacity of Iksan citizens.

The city also plans to launch 20 mid- to long-term strategic projects, such as installing convenience facilities at Mireuksaji Temple and Jewel-themed tourist areas, running a total travel center at Iksan Station, cultivating the Seodong Festival into representative cultural tourism festival of Korea, and opening an academy for tourism industry professionals.
