(SUNCHANG=Yonhap News) The Sunchang Gochujang Cook-off will be held on October 21 at the County Physical Education Center in Sunchang-gun, North Jeolla Province.
The county of Sunchang announced August 11 that it will be holding the competition in order to promote the outstanding quality of local fermented sauces, including gochujang (red pepper paste), and discover new unique recipes that use gochujang.
A total of 50 teams including 18 high school teams will participate in the contest.
Participants who also use local specialty produce, such as Sunchang blueberries or soy beans, will win additional points.
The first-prize winner will receive an award from the Minister of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and a prize money of KRW 2 million.
