(GUNSAN=Yonhap News) Gunsan City of North Jeolla Province announced January 14 its plans to spend a total of KRW 12.5 billion to transform the Gunsan Marine Product Center into an oceans and fisheries complex by 2020.

Over twenty years have passed since the opening of the Marine Product Center in Haemang-dong. Concerns have been raised over the building's safety, and many have argued for the need to rennovate and modernize its facilties.

The city plans to dismantle the existing building and build a new complex on the curent parking lot (9,340 square meters) for sales, processing, distribution, freezing and refrigeration, as well as spaces for cultural events.

The city also plans to work with the merchants to decide on the details of the shop locations, parking spaces, and operation of live fish stores at the new complex.
