Jeollabuk-do gets KRW 5.6 billion funding from the national government for industrial infrastructure improvements.
The money is to help subsidize commutation buses, install new occupational hazard prevention facilities, and create an open-concept gym.

The Jeollabuk-do Provincial Government announced on March 24 that five of its projects won fiscal support from the national government under the 2018 Industrial Cluster Improvement Program.

The program was introduced to provide a comprehensive range of support, with inter-Ministry participation, for making major improvements to industrial clusters and complexes across Korea, including the reform of residential, cultural, childcare, safety, and environmental facilities.

The Jeollabuk-do Provincial Government will receive KRW 5.627 billion funding for five projects, including the subsidization of commutation buses (Ministry of Employment and Labor, or MOEL), the installation of occupational hazard prevention facilities, and the creation of an open-concept gym (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, or MCST).

The commutation bus subsidization project involves supporting the commutation and transportation of workers that commute to and from the industrial complexes in the province. A total of KRW 400 million is to be invested in providing additional buses and stops at seven industrial complexes in rural areas, including those in Gimje (Jipyeongseon, Daedong, and Baekgu), Wanju (General), and Buan (Buan-Nodong, Buan Agro-Industrial Complex II and Julpo Agro-Industrial Complex).

Another KRW 220 million is to go to improving the working conditions for workers by installing occupational hazard prevention and exercise facilities in the Gunsan Industrial Complex.

A new open-concept gym, open to workers and local residents alike, will also come into being in Gochang.

The new gym is to be designed as a multipurpose facility accommodating exercises and athletic activities, a public library, an employment support center, and even a daycare center for local children. This new center of community activities is to be established with a total budget of KRW 5 billion.

Choi Jeong-ho, Vice-Governor of Political Affairs in Jeollabuk-do, commented: “We hope the recent wave of fiscal support from the national government will help us make significant improvements to the industrial and working environment in our province. The Jeollabuk-do Provincial Government will continue to make efforts to improve industrial clusters in the province.”
