According to Yonhap News,

(SUNCHANG=Yonhap News) Sunchang County, Jeonbuk-do, has invented a powered blueberry makgeolli.

The Sunchang Microbial Institute for Fermentation Industry's new powered makgeolli is portable and can be enjoyed anywhere. Consumers just have to mix it with water and let it ferment for a day to get fresh makgeolli rich in lactobacillus.

Because the developers added the carbonic acid fermentation technology to the blueberry powder, it is especially popular with younger consumers.

Traditional makgeolli can be kept for about a week, but the powdered type lasts much longer.

Because of the longer shelf life, powered makgeolli can be exported easily and has the potential to become a leading export product.

This makgeolli is made of Sunchang's local rice, Duke blueberries and yeast kept by the Sunchang Microbial Institute for Fermentation Industry.

The product was a hit at the recent International Food Industry Exhibition, Seoul (Seoul Food 2018) among Korean and overseas buyers.

After the positive reviews, the county now plans to commercialize the prototype.
