Jeonju Receives KRW 100M for Outstanding Employment Policy

On June 20, Jeonju City received two awards, one for its disclosing system of regional job creation in 2017 and the other for customized job creation for regional industries, at the 2018 National Local Government Jobs Awards hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor at the Sejong Government Convention Center.

Along with the awards from the Minster of Employment and Labor, the city received at KRW 100 million incentive.

The disclosing system of regional job creation is a system in which the heads of local autonomous governments disclose and implement job creation goals and measures that meet region-specific needs and the conditions of local residents during their terms in office.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor evaluated 243 heads of local governments on their will to create jobs, job planning and execution, results and the government body's efforts to increase the quality of jobs.

The city was evaluated highly for developing new-growth industries such as carbon and drones, even in the midst of challenging economic times. Moreover, the city worked for the creation of region-specific jobs in tourism and culture, establish infrastructure for communication among young people, push for social economic development and developed a social economic organization specifically for Jeonju.

Last year, the city set out to create 15,189 jobs, but created 19,694 jobs, 130% of the original goal. Jeonju also saw a YoY rise in other employment indicators such as employment rate, number of employed persons, number of regular employees.

Customized job creation for regional industries entails the creation and improvement of jobs that fit the region's industries as well as employee education and training. Out of the 30 outstanding cities, Jeonju received the award for outstanding local government.

With this year's accomplishments, the city will have the right of priority in the submission of the "2019 Project to Support the Creation of Customized Jobs in the Regional Industry by the Ministry of Employment and Labor," and a 10% exemption from local matching funds.
