On July 4, Iksan City revealed it has been selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2018 Small-scale Urban Regeneration New Deal Project.

The contest was held in the form of a public offering as part of the Urban Regeneration New Deal Project.

The small-scale projects allow residents to plan their own projects and participate in unit projects in areas that meet the project requirements.

The goal is to use the project as a cornerstone for expanding and developing into a sustainable resident-led urban regeneration project.

The city selected Inhwa-dong as the location, opened a city regeneration academy course, and conducted an intensive review meeting.

In addition, residents have been directly involved in discussing local issues so that they can identify local resources, present a vision for the future and develop detailed plans.

Residents were divided into; projects that can be carried out by themselves, ones that will be accompanied by budget support, ones to be promoted immediately and the projects to be prepared in the medium and long term. They came up with business plans involving modern buildings and submitted the final business plans.

The residents selected modern architecture scattered within the site of Inhwa-dong as a special local resource. With the budget of KRW 100 million for the project, the city will create the basis for urban regeneration through the preservation and utilization of modern buildings, documentary publications, archival publication, imaging systems, modern historical maps and environmental recordings.

Based on this, the city hopes to expand and develop the New Deal projects, which will secure large-scale government spending and serve as a successful case of urban regeneration for the country.
