Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do is concentrating on the growth as Korea's only hydrogen fuel cell certified city.

Wanju-gun said on September 23 that it had attracted the 'Hydrogen Product Inspection Support Center' that certifies fuel cells of 100kW or less and the 'Energy Storage System (ESS) Safety Evaluation Center' that certifies fuel cells exceeding 100kW.

The Hydrogen Product Inspection Support Center will be built on the research land (30,276㎡) in the 2nd Industrial Complex of Techno Valley, Wanju-gun, which will carry out inspections on hydrogen extraction system, water electrolysis facilities, hydrogen fuel cells, and hydrogen product manufacturing facilities.

Also, the ESS Safety Evaluation Center, which will be built on a 16,900㎡ scale, will have a comprehensive safety evaluation system for hydrogen fuel cells, solar power and ESS.

In addition, having been selected as the site for ‘Used fuel cell infrastructure establishment project’ among the 2021 industry innovation foundation establishment competition projects by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), Wanju-gun has come to secure 3 institutions and projects related with fuel cell certification of ‘before use’ and ‘after use’, including preparation of fuel cell reuse certification standards.

As an investment of KRW 116 billion will be made by 2025 for these institutes and projects, it will contribute to creating new growth engines and jobs.

To promote projects with these institutions, an investment of 116 billion won will be made by 2025, contributing to the creation of new growth engines and job creation.

Wanju-gun expects that once the establishment of these institutes and implementation of these projects go into full swing, it will have completed a one-stop system of test, evaluation, and certification of hydrogen fuel cells, for the first time in Korea.
