According to Yonhap News,

A next-generation solar cell manufacturing factory is expected to be built in Saemangeum, which is on track to become the center of renewable energy.

Jeollabuk-do and Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency (SDIA) signed an MOU with UniTest on October 14 to build a factory mass-producing 'Perovskite solar cell' in Saemangeum National Industrial Complex.

According to the MOU, UniTest will build a manufacturing plant on the area of 66,000 square meters (20,000-peyong) in Saemanguem Industrial Complex 1 District with KRW 121.3 billion investment by 2024.

The Perovskite solar cells that UniTest is to produce have higher efficiency of power generation than 1st generation silicon cells or 2nd generation thin film cells, with unit manufacturing cost 20-30% lower than existing products.

It is expected to lead the next generation solar cell market for buildings or Vehicle Integrated Photovoltaics (VIPV). It has been said that UniTest decided investment in consideration of locational conditions and support policies of Saemangeum, which is growing into the center of renewable energy and solar power generation.
