The facility to test high-speed autonomous driving, regarded as a key technology of future vehicles, will be built in Saemangeum.
Jeollabuk-do held a ground-breaking ceremony for 'construction of self-driving test-bed' at Bieungdo-dong in Gunsan on November 5.
The test-bed for self-driving that commenced on the day will be built around riverside roads of Saemangeum seawall and surrounding land set for landmark project.
It will be established as a facility to test 'level-3' self-driving, in which a car system is in charge of driving usually, and a driver intervenes only in emergency situations.
By investing a total project cost of KRW 20 billion until next year, a 21㎞-demonstration road, the longest in Korea, will be built.
There will be equipment and system to evaluate the performance of autonomous driving recognition control and verify driving safety.
In line with development of technology, it is expected to have an environment in which 'level 4-5' can be tested where the intervention of driver is not required at all.
