According to Yonhap News,

Gunsan Port is expected to emerge as a base port for offshore wind power projects in the southwest region of Jeollabuk-do.

This is because Gunsan Port has a competitive edge over other local ports in terms of accessibility, economic efficiency, and efficiency as it is close to the area of offshore wind power projects in the southwest region of Jeollabuk-do.

This project is to build an offshore wind farm with a capacity of 2.4GW by investing KRW 14 trillion over 8 years from this year on 448 square meters of Gochang-Buan waters.

Gunsan-si signed an MOU with the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), Korea Offshore Wind Power (KOWP), Gunsan Container Terminal, CJ Logistics, and Sebang at Pier 5 of Gunsan Port on May 10 to push for the offshore wind power project in the southwestern Jeollabuk-do and secure cargo volume at Gunsan Port.

The main contents of the MOU include administrative support such as port policy·support and cooperation on securing safety and efficiency in using port facilities, and cooperation in securing additional sites for offshore wind power equipment-if needed.

In particular, the city explained that with this MOU, it became possible to establish a smooth cooperative system between local governments, business operators, and port operators for the successful implementation of offshore wind power projects in the southwestern Jeollabuk-do.
