According to Yonhap News,

Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) announced on July 5 that 'Campus Innovation Park', an urban high-tech industrial complex, will be created by 2030 around the old main gate area.

Campus Innovation Park is a startup hub platform where large corporations, start-ups, R&D centers, residential and cultural facilities, among others, move in by creating a high-tech industrial complex on an idle site of a university, with support from the government.

Jeonbuk National University plans to invest KRW 110 billion by 2030 to develop a total area of 36,000 square meters around the old main gate and Jeonju Gymnasium in three phases.

In the first phase leading to 2026, it is planned to build an industry-university-research innovation hub that will house companies focused on cultural contents, information and communication technology, bio convergence, research institutes, and corporate support centers.

This is linked to the Jeonju City Urban Regeneration New Deal project, which aims to build a foundation for the digital cultural contents industry focused on metaverse.

In the second phase, it is planned to lay the foundation for sustainable growth by establishing a base for advancement of R&D and expansion into the global market for three years starting from 2025.

The third phase is a project to build a work-life balance town equipped with settlement facilities such as education, culture, and welfare for employees along with the creation of an eco-complex.

Jeonbuk National University is scheduled to begin administrative procedures for the establishment of an industrial complex plan within this month.
