Jeonju's sports town gains traction to start building athletic field and baseball stadium

Jeonju-si, Jeonbuk announced on Dec. 27 that the city would break ground for an athletic field and a baseball stadium, the core facilities of the complex sports town to be formed in the vicinity of Jeonju Worldcup Stadium. The construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2023.

An athletic field will have three floors plus one basement level with a total floor area of 8,079 square meters, housing up to 10,000 audiences and being equipped with a fitness center, athletes' waiting room, and skybox.

On the other hand, the baseball stadium will have one basement level with a total floor area of 7,066 square meters, an indoor training room, and other facilities.

Including the government funding of KRW 11.7 billion, a total of KRW 142.1 billion will be injected into the project. And the establishment of the field and stadium is to be completed by 2025.

Earlier, the city secured government funding of KRW 5.7 billion for the following year's project.

Jeonju Mayor Woo Beom-ki said, "It has been our long-held dream project to transfer the 42-year-old Jeonju World cup Stadium and set up a complex sports town for safety and sports welfare," adding, "We will proceed with the project swiftly by implementing the remaining process."
