The 11th General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Tourism Organization (TPO) kicked off on September 12 in Jeonju, Jeonbuk-do,

The General Assembly, held under the theme of "Tourism is economy. Tourism is the driving force of local economy", will be looking for ways for sustainable development of the tourism industry through special conference, thematic conference, and general conference.

It is also expected to adopt "Jeonju Declaration" containing revitalization of the local economy through the tourism industry, sustainable and inclusive development of tourism, and support for the 2030 Busan Expo, among others.

There will also be additional events including tourism road show, and inspection on tourism resources.

TPO is an international organization established in 2002 with a goal of developing tourism industry through the formation of networks between tourist cities in the Asia Pacific region. It currently has 132 cities from 16 countries and 57 private organizations as members.

Jeonju's Mayor said, "we hope this event will contribute to revitalizing the tourism in the Asia-Pacific region and serve as an opportunity to promote Jeonju as a tourism city globally."
