(JEONJU = Newsis) Reporter Yoon Nan-sul — The Jeonju Information Culture Industry Promotion Agency (JICA) announced on August 14 that it is ramping up support for corporate technology demonstration, professional talent cultivation, and domestic and international business networking in the second half of the year through the Jeonbuk Virtual Convergence Industry Innovation Center.

The initiative aims to integrate extended reality (XR), artificial intelligence (AI), holograms, and other virtual convergence technologies into Jeonbuk’s specialized industries, such as agri-bio ICT and film/video production. This integration supports local companies in commercializing content and training specialized talent.

During the first half of the year, JICA opened the center's facilities and equipment to local businesses, logging a total of 126 uses across 57 companies. It also trained 49 professionals through four educational programs.

Furthermore, JICA provided a total of KRW 280 million (approximately USD 210,000) to four local companies to promote the development and demonstration of diverse project content, including an experiential craftsman culture program in Namwon, an immersive reality experience hall at the Baekje Royal Palace Museum, agricultural-biological services, and AI-powered XR medication simulators.

In the second half of the year, while maintaining facility and equipment support, JICA plans to discover new projects centered on the Jeonbuk Virtual Convergence Industry Alliance and expand its talent training program to eight courses.

In October, the agency will facilitate business matching between South Korean and Thai companies to support local firms' entry into East Asian markets. In November, it plans to host a performance-sharing conference and technology seminar.

"In the first half of the year, we focused on building a solid foundation for the growth of the regional virtual convergence industry, ranging from infrastructure support and talent cultivation to content demonstration and domestic trade show marketing," said JICA Director Heo Jeon. "In the second half, we will further expand the touchpoints between specialized regional industries and virtual convergence technology, driving tangible results that lead to the commercialization of corporate content and expansion into overseas markets."
