(Jeonju=Yonhap News) Reporter Lim Chae-doo = On the 4th, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province signed a 34.3 billion KRW investment agreement with DuChemBio, a leading domestic radiopharmaceutical specialist company, at the provincial office to establish a "Radiopharmaceutical Production Facility and R&D Center." Jeongeup City and the Jeonbuk Innopolis Headquarters also joined the agreement.

Under the agreement, DuChemBio will construct a radiopharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) center, an R&D center, and Unit 1 manufacturing facility at the Jeongeup High-Tech Science Industrial Complex between 2027 and 2030.

From 2031 to 2032, the company plans to build an additional radioisotope and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing center, along with Unit 2 manufacturing facilities.

Through these facilities, the company will produce radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosing cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease, next-generation radioligand therapeutics that targetedly treat specific cancer cells, as well as radioisotopes and raw active ingredients.

Because radiopharmaceuticals have a short half-life, physical proximity between production facilities and medical institutions is critical. The province projects that once the Jeongeup facilities are completed, same-day supply of radiopharmaceuticals and therapeutics to medical institutions in the Honam and Chungcheong regions will become possible.

Governor Lee Won-taeg stated, "We expect this investment to serve as an opportunity to elevate the competitiveness of Jeonbuk's bio and pharmaceutical industry to the next level."
