According to Yonhap News,

The public and private sectors will cooperate to attract more cargoes to Gunsan Port, Jeonbuk-do (North Jeolla Province).

Gunsan Regional Maritime Affairs & Port Office (Minister Lee Byeong-ju) said on March 9th that “we will form ‘a team to boost cargoes at Gunsan Port’ together with Jeonbuk, Gunsan City, cargo handling companies, and shipping companies in order to increase the number of container cargoes and general cargoes processed at Gunsan Port.”

The team will visit about ten companies to introduce incentives and other benefits offered to cargoes handled at Gunsan Port.

Especially, its efforts will go beyond Jeonbuk and Chungnam to Seoul to draw general cargoes such as nickel and minerals.

The Port of Gunsan, where a total of 29 large vessels of between 20,000 to 50,000 tons can come alongside the pier at the same time, plans to build a designated pier for soft coal cargoes in the second half of this year. That is why it is desperate to attract shipping companies and cargoes.

The Port handled 104,410 TEU containers last year, surpassing 100,000 TEU for the first time since its opening. Also, 17,494 TEU containers have been handled this year as of late February, a slight increase from the same period last year (17,465 TEU).
