According to Yonhap News,

 

Jangsu-gun, Jeonbuk-do (North Jeolla Province) said that its designation as a horse leisure and cultural special zone by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy will boost its projects to create the horse industry cluster.

 

Jangsu-gun has established infrastructure for the horse industry such as horse-riding tracks, Jangsu ranch of Korea Racing Authority, Korea Horse Affairs High School, and a horse-riding park in a bid to diversity the leisure culture and nurture the cultural and tourism industry associated with horse-riding.  

 

Jangsu plans to invest KRW 101,147 million by 2024 to create a production basis for the horse industry on the area of 710,984m2 in Cheoncheon-myeon, Beonam-myeon, Janggye-myeon, and Jangsu-eup, establish infrastructure to foster human resources in the horse industry, and distribute horse-riding culture.

 

Also, it will push forward 15 sub-projects including horse farm nurturing, establishment of universities specializing in horses, horse cross country and horse therapy operation, Jangsu horse-riding competition, and horse culture festivals.

 

Various experience and tourism programs on horses will be developed to differentiate the regional tourism, and the tourism and leisure industries will be combined to create a new growth engine for the regional economy.

 

Jangsu-gun expects that its designation as a special zone will create the production of KRW 92.7 billion, the added value of KRW 34.5 billion, and 454 new jobs.

 

County Governor Jang Jae-yeong of Jangsu said “Jangsu-gun is the most important key point in the southern inland area where three highways meet in all directions and has nurtured the horse industry as a new regional growth engine,” and added “we will diversify the horse industry from simple experience and tourism to a growth engine creating high value added by producing best quality horses, nurturing professionals, and fostering the tourism and leisure industry.”
